Australian Bird Collection.
Birds of Australia depicted in detailed realistic collection of acrylic paintings
In recent years I have worked in various water based media on pet and figure portraits. However, these paintings started to feel less creative and more like a production line. This year I decided to slow down my practice. To create less art, but pieces that I could be really proud of.
I now focus on detail and quality. Taking my time and getting in the flow of working on paintings that make me happy. I hope to bring that same joy to my collectors through archival artworks that will stand the test of time.
Working on my Australian bird collection, I painstakingly add layer after layer of paint to create feather textures and depth in my paintings. Paying particular attention to the eyes, I try to convey expression and feeling in my subjects.
When I returned home after living overseas, I found comfort in the familiarity of Australian bird life. Drawing inspiration from the calm that nature brings, but also the funny characters like the kookaburra and galah.
My signature collection is a series of detailed Australian bird paintings. I hope the patterns and textures of the feathers, feel like you can reach out and touch them. I find the eyes of the birds particularly captivating and enjoy working on the contrast between the soft fluffy feathers and the hardness of their beaks. I hope that my artwork evokes feelings of joy and calm, a little piece of nature that can be there whenever you need it.
