My Endangered Fauna Solar Art Prize Win with ‘Introvert’

‘Introvert’ Acrylic painting of a gang gang cockatoo on wooden artist panel

I am thrilled to share that I was awarded the Natural Environment – Endangered or threatened fauna or flora section of the Solar Art Prize – Caring for Our Planet in April 2022! My winning artwork, "Introvert," is an acrylic painting on a wooden artist panel measuring 66.5 x 66.5cm.

Introvert a portrait of a female gang gang cockatoo. This painting was inspired by a stunning reference photo taken by Michelle Birkett. Female gang gangs have stunning subtle feather markings of orange and red against the predominantly dark grey plumage. Gang gang cockatoos were listed as an endangered species after the devastating 2019 Black Summer bushfires.

It was an incredible honour to be recognised among so many talented artists, especially given the high standard of diverse and imaginative work that the Solar Art Prize attracts every year. Winning this award is not only a personal achievement but also a reminder of the importance of caring for our planet and taking action against global warming.

As a bonus, the prize includes vouchers for thousands of dollars worth of solar products, such as solar panels, hot water services, wind power or batteries, and efficient refrigerators. I'm excited to use these vouchers to lower my carbon footprint and save money on energy costs.

I am grateful for this opportunity and hope that my artwork can inspire others to take action in protecting our natural environment and the endangered or threatened species that inhabit it.
