Printmaking Workshop: A Beginners Guide to Creating a Feather Print

Feathers are so beautiful. They have delicate texture perfect for printmaking. The high contrast nature of relief prints lends themselves to capturing the fine details of Australian bird feathers. 

Join me for a fun and welcoming workshop. Not only will you learn the basics of printmaking, but you will leave with several feather prints that will look stunning on your wall at home.

What will be covered:

  • Feather structure

  • How to design an effective print

  • How to safely carve your printing block

  • Creating a test print

  • Creating a polished print

What will be supplied:

  • Instruction booklet

  • Reference feather or photo

  • Printing block

  • Shared carving tools

  • Printing ink, printing medium and paint

  • Roller

  • 300gsm 100% cotton watercolour paper 

  • Snacks and drinks

What to bring:

Everything you need for the workshop will be supplied, so you don’t need to bring anything other than yourself if you don’t want to. However, if there are specific carving tools that you like to use, feel free to bring them along.

What you will leave with:

Several detailed feather prints on 100% cotton 300gsm watercolour paper. You will also be able to take home your carved printing block so that you can continue to experiment with different prints over and over again. In addition, you can keep the instruction booklet used in the class, so that you can refer back to what you learned in the workshop for future creations.
