Celebrating Art and Environmental Advocacy: A Day at the Solar Art Prize Exhibition

Next to my piece ‘Get A Grip’ in the Solar Art Prize

Today was a lovely day to attend the Solar Art Prize exhibition opening. The gorgeous weather was like a reflection of the beautiful artwork on display. The exhibition was hosted by the Royal South Australian Society for Arts.

As my sister and I entered the Institute building on North Terrace, we were greeted by a breathtaking display of artwork, each piece telling a unique story about our planet's natural beauty and the urgent need for conservation. From vibrant paintings to intricate sculptures, the diversity of artistic expression was truly inspiring!

A highlight of the event was the presentation of prizes by the esteemed Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia, adding a touch of prestige to the occasion. It was a reminder of the importance of art in sparking conversations and driving positive change in our society.

One particular moment of delight was seeing a beautiful painting by one of my art teachers from childhood, serving as a poignant reminder of the interconnectedness of our creative journeys. In a city as small as Adelaide, the bonds of the arts community run deep, fostering collaboration, support, and inspiration at every turn.

While I wasn't fortunate enough to receive a mention in this year's prize list, I felt a sense of pride and admiration for the talented artists whose works were recognised. Despite the judges' initial reservations about the number of honourable mentions, Pip Fletcher's unwavering determination ensured that deserving artists received recognition through the addition of People's Choice Awards.

I encourage everyone to visit the exhibition in person and cast their vote for the People's Choice Awards – a wonderful opportunity to support and celebrate the incredible talent on display. Additionally, it was heartwarming to see the close-knit arts community come together, with familiar faces and new acquaintances alike sharing in the joy of artistic expression.

The exhibition will be open during gallery opening hours:
